Our Story

I was out for dinner one evening with a large group of people and sitting next to a person I had never met before. Throughout the night I got to know this person really well. They were originally from Sydney and his job required him to move to Perth with his wife and family. The couples plans were to build a new home. Being completely brand new to Perth, they had absolutely no idea who was the right builder or the wrong builder to build with? After one weekend of visiting builder display homes, they were more confused and unfortunately being harassed continually on their mobile phone from Sales Reps. They desperately wanted a more professional and easier way to build a home. After a bit of research they chose a Building Broker service was the smartest fit.

They interviewed 3 building brokers and selected the one they thought was the most knowledgeable about construction, design and council requirements. The budget was around $500,000 for an upmarket custom double storey home. The appropriate designer was audited and selected who had strong experience with-in this price range. Upon completion of the design a builder was recommended. The couple had no idea about how good or bad this builder was and put their trust and backing in the hands of the building brokers extensive experience. The home was built and completed without any hitches. The couple made a strong point about how easy it was, and the fact that apart from the initial design service fee, they did not have to pay the building brokers main fee for service, they pointed out that he was payed direct by the Building company and it genuinely cost no more as he was dealing direct with the management. For this couple, building a home was a seamless and easy experience (which I was really glad to hear).

As the red wine flowed over dinner, needless to say, we had many more conversations about average and unfortunately terrible building experiences around the table. Others listening in the conversation complained about the changing of their Construction Supervisor every other month during their Build, and how frustrating it was to lose the relationship. Others complained about delays and not being forewarned about potential delays upfront. One couple said they had a great building experience except for when they had to speak to their Client Liaison person, who they believed had never stepped foot on a building site... The more I listened to everyone, the more I saw it was a lack of communication and lack of being told the reality of time frames or general lack of proper old fashioned hands on Building Consultancy with expert experience from day dot.

This opened my eyes to the fact of how valuable a Building Broker could be in the Building process. I could see by qualifying the builders up front, I could show my clients the varying time frames, construction processes and quality. I could show my clients the Builders overall experience. I could call the shots, as I was able to move to another builder if they did not meet mine nor my clients preferred requirements. While working for one Builder I was constrained to their terms and conditions, their experience, plus their Do’s and Don’ts policy. It didn't seem right to corral a client into a cow pen style mentality. There are so many great builders out there, and unfortunately most prospective customers don't find the right Designer or Builder who can make their journey truly memorable. Unfortunately consumers are generally guided by slick marketing campaigns that can costs millions of dollars and they don't realise they are paying for it in the price their new home...

"Our goal is to match up the best possible designer and builder for each and every client".

Just the way a Mortgage or Finance Broker offers greater choice and flexibility, I firmly believe a Building Broker and a selective design service model, is the future for building a home successfully in Western Australia.
